Cancún: almost luminous white sand (it does not burn underfoot) and an intensely turquoise sea, but with more surf along the hotel zone open to the ocean. The more sheltered beaches are towards Isla Mujeres or the Riviera Maya.

For families with small children or leisurely swimmers, Punta Cana's sea is usually more comfortable. For those chasing the photo who do not mind the waves, Cancún does not disappoint.

What is there to do besides the beach?
